Ming-Te, LU | Journey of the Metonic Cycle I | Mixed Media | 162 × 130 cm | 2026

Lu Ming-Te’sJourney of the Metonic Cycle series was created in 2026, when he entered his fourth
“Silent Winter cycle,” marked by the coincidence of his lunar and solar-calendar birthdays. Sensing that life had reached its final Silent Winter cycle, he resolved to spend his remaining years roaming freely and without restraint. In this state of mind, he completed five works for the series.

In Silent Winter Journey No. 1, Lu moves beyond the limitations of a single medium, constructing an
imagined space-time in which fossils, mountain forests, and human figures are interwoven. Special
pigments cause the work’scolors to shift with changing light, allowing a scene of luxuriant splendor to
transform in an instant into something restrained and unadorned.

Tiny figures drawn from the The Mustard Seed Garden Manual of Painting of Painting emerge within
the brushwork, resembling passing travelers—fishermen and woodcutters engaged in dialogue, offering guidance along the way. The work alludes to the creative journey as an ongoing series of small-scale migrations: irreversible, unpredictable, and without end.
