Starlight originates from artist’s fascination with twilight. As the pink and violet sky descends and the first stars begin to appear, the body and consciousness seem to dissolve under an invisible force, fragmenting into countless shimmering yet sharply edged pieces. This sensation carries both the unease of disintegration and the possibility of reconstruction.
In an age when screens increasingly dominate visual experience, the body, the mind, and the surrounding environment appear to be pixelated together. Rather than depicting disappearance, Liu seeks to capture a moment of reconfiguration. The mosaic-like blocks floating across the image resemble both residual traces of light on the retina and fragments of consciousness suspended between virtual and physical realities.
Pink-violet hues, starlight, and digital grids overlap, gradually obscuring the contours of the figure. As the physical body breaks into fragments, the mind appears to acquire a freer form. By bringing together natural luminosity and a digital visual language, the work reflects the shifting perceptual state of contemporary life between body and consciousness, reality and virtuality. Like twilight itself—neither day nor night—the painting inhabits an ambiguous yet richly charged transitional space.
