This series continues the artist’s long-standing exploration of the dynamics of looking and the formation of self-identity. Taking “afternoon tea” as its narrative setting, the artist introduces a new pictorial format through shaped canvases modeled after slices of cake.

Typically associated with pleasure, celebration, and refinement, the cake here becomes a way of looking. More than a transformation of the canvas itself, its cross-sectional form reveals the layered psychological structures concealed beneath a seemingly sweet and delicate surface. Through this act of “cutting into” the relationships between women, the artist seeks to expose their emotional cross-sections, allowing subtle currents of feeling—often difficult to perceive—to become visible and felt.
