This painting depicts an ecological and social landscape in the aftermath of the collapse of civilization, exploring the formation, consumption, and natural metabolism of systems. At the
center of the composition stands a colossal creature. Rather than a force of destruction, it functions as nature's mechanism of renewal, dismantling towering, rigid monuments of human civilization. As fragments of these structures return to the earth, they are transformed into lush vegetation that nourishes new life, revealing nature's enduring capacity for regeneration and cyclical renewal.
Contrasting with nature's selfless process of transformation is humanity's persistent attachment to obsolete structures. On the water's surface, vessels ranging from luxurious yachts to weathered wooden rafts expose how social hierarchies continue to be replicated and preserved even in the face of apocalypse. Beneath the sea, despite environmental upheaval and nuclear contamination, humanity persists in constructing vast underwater settlements in an attempt to restore order and rebuild civilization.
Through its meticulously rendered cross-sectional composition and richly detailed realism, the work juxtaposes the quiet, regenerative force of nature with the ironic, resilient, yet ultimately fragile condition of human civilization as it continues to depend upon—and cling to—the very systems that sustain it.
