Horse (Red & Gold) begins with a two-dimensional drawing and develops into what Sangsoo Lee describes as a “drawing in the air.” The familiar silhouette of a horse is reduced to flowing bands that twist, overlap, and intersect, transforming line into sculptural mass. Although the work remains physically still, its repeated curves and shifting directions suggest the rhythm and momentum of a horse in motion. The open spaces between the bands are as important as the solid forms, allowing light and the surrounding environment to become part of the sculpture. Red conveys vitality, passion, and forward energy, while gold introduces a sense of dignity and brilliance. Balancing abstraction with immediate recognition, the work invites viewers to experience the horse not as a realistic representation, but as a dynamic composition of line, color, space, and movement.
