Yu-ichi INOUE | Tai_Frozen | Ink on Japanese Paper | 120.5 × 195.0 公分 | 1961

Yu-ichi Inoue often chose his subjects based on Zen Buddhism and Buddhist themes, and this work is one of them.
Ren (Lotus) was created using frozen ink. The unique, three-dimensional brushstrokes are the result of this technique, which Inoue experimented with in the early 1960s. However, feeling it was overly reliant on technique, he abandoned the method after only a few years.
