Artificial Planet No. 12 is a defining mixed-media masterpiece by the Taiwanese artistic duo Lin Yu-Ching and Wei Hsing-Yu (L & W). Collaborating through a unique process of "iconic thinking," the duo constructs brilliant, psychedelic, and self-sustaining parallel ecosystems on paper. At the heart of the composition lies a circular planet formed by a dense cluster of cells, spores, and bizarre mushrooms, manifesting the reproduction of life through the artistic lenses of "micro-cosmology" and "new materialism." Utilizing acrylic, technical pens, and pastels, the artists meticulously distribute gradients and color blocks with extreme patience. This smooth and balanced application of color evokes a sense of tranquility and narrative "synchronicity" akin to traditional Renaissance frescoes. In Artificial Planet No. 12, the mutated forms of whimsical mushrooms are enveloped by jetting light rays and sparkling bubbles. Amidst the seemingly chaotic noise of this dense visual environment, a mischievous vitality and quirky sense of humor unexpectedly burst forth. Through this ecological heterotopia, Lin and Wei skillfully transform the modern anxieties, uncertainties, and escapist desires of a bustling society into a stunning, harmonized visual fairy tale.
