"Painting is about depicting what one thinks, not just what one sees." This idea is the core soul of Chiang Han-Tung’s art. His paintings do not merely copy nature. Instead, he shifts his focus from the outside world into his inner heart, recasting deep memories of his hometown, local opera, and myths into visual images rich with Eastern style.

In creating his artistic world, Chiang drew inspiration from Western art. Cubism allowed him to break free from traditional perspective. Surrealism helped him layer fragments of memory from his subconscious into dreamlike scenes where reality and imagination blend. Meanwhile, Primitivism gave his work simple, direct lines, adding a rustic charm and a fairy-tale feel. Moving beyond realistic shapes and proportions, he used pure childlike wonder to fill his paintings with rich folk color.

After facing an eye condition in middle age, Chiang began painting with his "mind’s eye," slowly bringing memories of his hometown to life on canvas. The Seven-Mile Bridge is a classic masterpiece expressing his childhood memories. Under a bright moon in the night sky, tiled roofs and covered bridges overlap into a multidimensional space. The lively crowd on the bridge, children happily playing in the water, and swimming fish all complement one another. With intricate patterns and bright colors, he captures vibrant, lively everyday moments, turning them into a genuine, life-filled scroll of local scene.
