Hsin-Ying LIU | Untitled | Acrylicl on Canvas | 147 x 100 cm | 2026

Hsin-Ying LIU approaches the blank canvas as an open field of perception, allowing breath, bodily movement, and intuition to guide the gradual formation of the image. Expansive brushstrokes enable colours and lines to seep into one another, accumulate, and extend across the surface. Vivid blues, yellows, and greens create rhythms of density and openness, evoking the continual movement of air currents, moisture, vegetation, and shifting landscapes.
The composition establishes neither a single focal point nor a fixed setting or complete narrative. Instead, it invites the viewer’s gaze to wander and pause among its intersecting forms. Images resembling branches, pathways, foliage, and living organisms alternately emerge and dissolve, positioning the work between figuration and abstraction. Rather than directly representing the natural world, these forms translate bodily sensations, memories, emotions, and imagination into a perceptible visual field. Through her fluid and tender painterly language, LIU presents nature as an inner landscape shaped by lived experience and the evolving relationship between the body and its surroundings.
