An accumulation of labour and time, this stratified work of ceramics challenges sensory perception through the deception of appearance. Observing geological strata near his studio, the artist replicates the process of sedimentation by coating paper with porcelain slip (liquid clay) tinted with hand-mixed pigments, then folded, stacked, and compacted by hand into dense rectangular pieces. Vitrifying the softness into solidity in the kiln, he emulates the traces of time, transforming fleeting moments into an enduring existential puzzle. The warped and sunken shape is illusory and inquisitive, born from a desire to question the ways perception defines truth in material and infused with a fascination for the poetic instability of matter. Playing with the unresolved paradox between fragility and permanence, the artist delivers an ode to the quiet persistence of making in an era that often priorities speed over integrity.
