Born in Kyoto Prefecture in 1988, Mine Tanigawa completed an MFA in Lacquer Art at Kyoto City University of Arts.
Drawing upon impressions and sensory experiences derived from nature and landscape, Tanigawa creates sculptural works that move between figuration and abstraction. Constructed using FRP and layered repeatedly with lacquer, her works possess a distinctive texture and physical presence, while maintaining a light and fluid sense of form.
Tanigawa received the Kyoto City New Artist Award in 2021. Her works are held in the collections of Kyoto City University of Arts and the Victoria and Albert Museum, among others, and have also been installed in hotels and public spaces internationally, including Shangri-La Qiantan Shanghai, The Peninsula London, and TIAD, Autograph Collection.
