Where my gaze meets, there is peace.
With the series of a journey of one’s own, Ahn Soyoung conveys the feeling of focusing solely on herself through the image of a woman who is travelling alone in the midst of nature. The woman in the images is free to go anywhere and is not constrained by time or space. Ahn introduces nomadic thinking to her contemporaries who are living in the present, and longing for the still unknown. As she does not belong anywhere, she is headed only towards where she feels like going.
“A journey of one’s own” takes on different perspectives and is subdivided into three parts:
1) A journey of one’s own: her scenery
2) I’ll come to you: her wish
3) Contemplation: her gaze
Ahn has drawn and painted the scenery encapsulating her own feelings. The artist has expressed various emotions such as exhaustion, sadness, and longing for a trip that may not always be enjoyable. Nevertheless, the girl portrayed is smiling because the joy of adventure is much greater than any supposed apprehension. I hope that you too can feel the different sentiments portrayed along her journey.
