This work continues the artist’s long-standing exploration of memory and forgetting. Lee, SUNG views memory as fragile fragments—rescued remnants that often shift or fade before they can be fully recorded. By materializing these fragments through figurative animal forms, he reconstructs emotional states experienced at different moments in time.
The sparrow, an unlikely diver, embodies the desire to pursue dreams and the courage to confront personal limitations, while the penguin appears as a knowledgeable guide leading the way into the unknown depths of the sea. Beneath its fairy-tale-like narrative, the work reflects deeper themes of growth, companionship, and self-projection. As the story unfolds, the artist becomes immersed in memory itself, gradually blurring the boundary between fiction and reality. Rather than preserving the past intact, the work seeks to capture the genuine emotional resonance evoked by objects in a fleeting moment.
