Jui Hwa LIN | Range No.8| Wood-fired Ceramics | 30 x 20 x 78 cm | 2015

“Range No. 8” was completed through high-temperature wood firing at 1551°C, representing a significant realization of Lin Rui-Hua’s core concept of “Future Ceramics.” Within this intense firing environment, clay and wood interact over an extended period, as flames, ash, and airflow continuously circulate within the kiln. This dynamic process naturally generates surface textures of a warm, jade-like quality. These textures are not deliberately applied decorations, but rather natural imprints formed through the interplay of earth and fire under the convergence of extreme heat and time. The title “Range” symbolizes continuity and enduring existence. The intricate and subtle surface patterns seem to record the movement of the kiln fire, while also reflecting the pulsating vitality of clay under extreme temperatures. Through this work, Lin brings ceramics into a realm not yet fully explored— transforming it from a functional object into a path that leads toward the summit of “Future Ceramics.”
