Chang Ling
Born in 1975 in Hualien, Taiwan, Chang Ling earned his D.N.S.A.P (Diplôme National Supérieur d’Arts Plastiques) from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 2004. He joined the Taipei-based art collective VT Artsalon《悍圖社》 in 2006. His recent solo exhibitions include Pre-War Preparations《戰前準備》 at MOCA Taipei in 2023, The Moment When Flowers Bloom Outside of Time《花開在時間不存在的瞬間》 at Don Gallery, Shanghai in 2022, and The Grand Dark Society – History as the Everyday《大玄玄社會-歷史日常》 at the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts in 2019. He has also participated in notable group exhibitions such as Era and Memory: Highlights from the Collection《時代記憶-典藏精選展》 at the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts. Chang Ling’s latest series, On the Verge of Paradise, explores the ambiguity between illusion and reality. His scenes—composed through a complex, bird’s-eye multi-point perspective—navigate this tension with nuance. Far from self-pity or complaint, his works exude a quiet humility and an ineffable wisdom. Through the seamless integration of setting, figures, gestures, and detail, his paintings invite viewers into moments of sudden insight and recognition beyond what can be clearly explained or spoken.
