A seminal work from 1966. The Quiet Manifestation of Rocks was completed during a key period when Liu Kuo-sung was actively championing the modernization of ink art. Moving away from the conventional reliance on traditional brushwork and the copying of ancient styles, Liu argued for an art form that reflects modern sensibilities. By putting forward the radical idea that "brush and ink are naught," he shifted the focus from inherited techniques to the materiality of the medium, successfully reconstructing a new visual language for contemporary ink painting.
